Paternity and DCSS

Situations where two people have a child or children but were not married are known as paternity cases.  You must file a request to establish a parental relationship if you want the court to make orders as to custody and visitation and child support.  The filing fee is the same as in divorce/legal separation cases. 

The Department of Child Support Services can also help you establish child support orders and help you enforce support orders you already have.  There are no filing fees for these cases.  This office has extensive experience with DCSS and can help you modify your support with them or help you defend a support request that you have been served with by the County.
